Anthology Film Archives (AFA):Typeface Design
Anthology Film Archives (AFA) is a New York–based experimental film cinema dedicated to the preservation, screening, and support of avant-garde and independent cinema. In addition to exhibiting experimental films, AFA actively supports emerging filmmakers through funding and production-related programs.Based on this identity, I designed a typeface inspired by the film clapboard, a fundamental tool used at the beginning of the filmmaking process. The structure and rhythm of the letterforms reference the clapboard’s modular divisions and sharp geometry, symbolizing the moment just before a film begins. This concept reflects AFA’s role as a space where experimental films are both presented and brought into being.
